Growing up with asthma and other respiratory challenges provided me a venue for learning many methods of providing myself with relief and healing of this vital body system. Here is a recipe for a wonderful tonic I learned during my herbal training and have put to good use over the years for myself and human clients. I say human, as I have not used this specific recipe with animals, however I utilized the various components when the necessity has arisen.
Energetically, the lungs and respiratory system are the seat of grief when out of balance. This explains why so many get respiratory illness during highly emotional and stressful times of their lives.
To add some extra alchemy you may speak sure words as follows into the mixture as you cook it :
In ease and grace I now release all grief, sadness, doubt and sorrow from my bodies (physical, mental, emotional) permanently and replace this energy with that of optimum wellness and divine love, light and joy.
Frequency of use: This tonic is meant to be used to strengthen the lungs and overall respiratory system by making a single recipe once a month and drinking it over a 48 hour period. Then take a full month’s break before doing the tonic again.
A note to consider: The lungs and respiratory system are the seat of grief when out of balance. Thus it is no huge surprise that the emotions of holidays and family relations both past and present can result in illness of this system.
Partnership with Flower Essences
Along with the following herbs I suggest the flower essences: Yarrow and Star of Bethlehem for clearing the emotional and mental bodies.
I have road tested the following tonic repeatedly and found it to be quite effective. To add some extra alchemy you may speak sure words as follows into the mixture as you cook it :
I realize all grief, sadness, doubt and sorrow from my bodies (physical, mental, emotional) permanently and replace this energy with that of optimum wellness and unconditional lovejoy.
Herb Names & Descriptions
Basic recipe for lung support:
- Horehound – expectorant
- Comfrey – cellular regenerator
- Marsh Mallow – mucus membrane support
- Licorice Root – adrenal support
- Pao de Arco – lymph system support
Add the following if ill or immune system is weak:
- Chaparral – anti bacterial; anti fungal; etc.
- Astragalus
Purchase these herbs in cut and shifted form (c/s) as opposed to powdered. I suggest getting a minimum of 2 oz of each herb – if you are buying off the Internet then the amount is usually 4 oz.
Recipe
- Using a large sauce pan – ~ 3 qt. – fill with filtered water and place on burner over medium heat. Add ~ `1/2 oz of each herb in the water (I use my intuition for measuring – ask the healer that is within you to assist or use a scale if you are more comfortable with that method).
- After placing the herbs in the water, bring it to a light boil and then back down to a low simmer for ten minutes. At the end of the ten minutes, turn off the burner and let the infusion seep for about 1 hour.
- Next, using a metal strainer or cheesecloth – strain the herbs off and return the resulting infusion back to the burner on low. Add honey to taste (horehound and chaparral are both rather bitter).
- Remove from heat, set aside one cup to drink and place the remainder in the refrigerator
- Drink the tonic over 48 hour period to strengthen and heal the lungs
Once again … Frequency of use: This tonic is meant to be used to strengthen the lungs and overall respiratory system by making a single recipe once a month and drinking it over a 48 hour period. Then take a full month’s break before doing the tonic again.
Clean Up
Make sure you are also drinking a lot of water in conjunction with this infusion to help flush your system.
Store the left over herbs in a dry, dark place – such as brown glass jars or brown bags.
